A brief history

Mr Bernard Tobing, an Indonesian Christan who once worked for the Sarawak Government in Miri and an ex-Columbian friend of his, Steven Chulo were the prime movers behind the establishment of the Anglican Youth Organisation.

Twnty-nine youths attended the first meeting of the Protem Committee from the church in which Steven Chulo was elected as the Chairman.

Under the kind and direct assistance of Mr. John Leong (now Rt. Revd. Bishop John Leong), the Fourth Divisional Anglican Youth Council (FDAYC) was finally registered to the Registrar of Society on 10th September 1969. At that time, Archdeacon Mai was the Parish Vicar.

In June 1975, Archdeacon Chabu, the adviser, suggested that the Fourth Divisional Anglican Youth Council (FDAYC) be changed to the ANGLICAN YOUTH COUNCIL (AYC) because the former represented a much wider area. The new name was used for the first time at a committee meeting on 5th March 1975.
